July 23, 2010 by Staff · 4 Comments
Earlier this month a rookie Miami police officer shot and killed an unarmed black man during a routine traffic stop. Thirty-four-year-old officer Joseph Marin is now on administrative leave, and the funeral for 36-year-old DeCarlos Moore was held last Friday. The Overtown community of Miami, where the shooting occurred, is mourning the loss of life and demanding justice from the Miami police department. Richard P. Dunn, Miami City Commissioner; Gary Johnson, former head of African-American Outreach for President Obama in Florida; and Nathaniel Wilcox of local community organization P.U.L.S.E. join us to further discuss the issue.
Religion Week continues with a powerful preacher in the Baptist tradition. Dr. Frederick Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas is a prophetic minister who preaches a gospel inclusive of social justice and politics. Rev. Haynes joins us to discuss the need for Christians to minister beyond the church to make a positive impact on the world.

Puzzled by Rev. Freddie Haynes’ comments about Obama’s handling of Shirley Sharrod. Haynes accurately stated that Obama’s approach thus far has been to be cautious. Why then assume he had any involvement or knowledge of what was going on. As you said it does not fit his m.o. But what does make sense is him and reporters close to the fire like Savanah Guthrie @ MSNBC saying it appeared from her vantage point inside the white house that Obama knew nothing about it. Don’t jump ship. The man said he knew nothing about it.
