For years, teachers have tried to use the culture, the fashion, the music of hip-hop to reach out to students. But, how important is it to include hip-hop in the classroom? And should it then, be used as an educational tool?

Marc Lamont Hill of Columbia University says yes. He tackles these and other questions in his book “Beats, Rhymes, and Classroom Life: Hip-Hop Pedagogy and the Politics of Identity.”
