City Kid: A Writer’s Memoir of Ghetto Life And Post-Soul Success

Nelson George is a writer who’s work has run a remarkable course:
from the Village Voice… to the Chris Rock Show… to a very personal HBO family story called “Life Support” that starred Queen Latifah….

His latest effort is a book called CITY KID: A Writer’s Memoir of Ghetto Life and Post-Soul Success.

He calls it a LOVE LETTER to New York in the era that many want to forget.

Remember when the City was told to DROP DEAD by the Federal government?

Crack was a part of daily life. So were unemployment, bussing and riots.

But through Nelson George’s life, the city and the country evolved….and he was there to chronicle the social change and, especially, the music and film.
